Potsdamer Platz is a great example of the new Berlin. The tall buildings in different shapes are all good examples of modern arctitecture that gives the square an urban look and feel which is in sharp contrast to the time when it was a part of the death strip during the cold war.

Some history
Potsdamer Platz was one of the busiest traffic intersection's in Europe with banks, hotels, restaurants, shops, cinema's, clubs and bars in the immediate vicinity of the square. Potsdamer Platz which is located in the heart of Berlin at the intersection of 5 of the busiest streets, was totally destroyed during the World War 2. After the war the area was divided in two between East- and West Berlin, and much of the square became a part of the death strip.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall
After the fall of the wall in 1989 Potsdamer Platz with it's central location once again became an attractive location in Berlin. The German government decided to split the square into 4 pieces which they sold to commercial interests. During the building period Potsdamer Platz was the largest construction site in Europe.
