Gendarmenmarkt
Gendarmenmarkt was created by Georg Christian Unger at the end of the 17th century, and was then named Linden-Markt. The square got it's present name when Frederick William I of Prussia built stables for his Kürassier-regiment Gens d'armes.

During World War 2 most of Gendarmenmarkt's surrounding buildings were damaged or destroyed. Today all of the buildings are restored, and the the German cathedral (Deutscher Dom), the French cathedral (Französischer Dom) and the Concert Hall (Königliches Schauspielhaus) are now surrounding the square in all their past glory.
