Checkpoint Charlie

The crossing point between East and West Berlin - Checkpoint Charlie - became a symbol of the Cold War. Checkpoint Charlie was located in the intersection between Friedrichstrasse and Zimmerstrasse and in some of the surrounding area.

Checkpoint Charlie became an important symbol of the divided Berlin during the Cold War. Some of the less known crossing points were Checkpoint Alpha and Checkpoint Bravo.

Checkpoint Charlie today
The Berlin Wall was tore down in 1989, but Checkpoint Charlie continued to be the official crossing point for diplomats and visitors until the German Reunification in october 1990. Today a copy of the booth and sign mark the place where Checkpoint Charlie was located. Close by you can also find the Wall Museum which looks at the history of the Berlin Wall.
