The German Historical Museum in Berlin - Photo: Gaute NordvikThe German Historical Museum was opened by former Chancellor of Germany Helmut Kohl and the mayor of Berlin, Eberhard Diepgen on 750th anniversary of the founding of Berlin. The museum is located in the Zeughaus, which is the oldest building in the street Under den Linden.
The EntranceThe German Historical Museum has 10.000 square meters in three floors in the old Zeughaus building. The museum exhibitions covers pieces of art and historical documents based on political, social and economical aspects of German history from the 9th century until today. The different exhibitions covers different time periods of German history.
ZeughausZeughaus
The Zeughaus was built in the period 1695-1706. The building in baroque style was used as an artillery arsenal before it in 1875 was transformed into a military museum. In the period 1949-1965 the Zeughaus was subject to extensive renovations after the large devastations as a result of World War 2.
